The Chapter Organizer/Founder is a grassroots leader who establishes a new Labor Party chapter in their city, county, or state. Whether starting alone or with a small founding team, they build the organizational foundation that transforms individual supporters into a powerful, coordinated force for workers' rights and economic justice in their community.
This role combines visionary leadership with practical organizing skills, working with national Labor Party support to navigate requirements, develop structures, recruit members, and launch campaigns that put working people's interests at the center of local politics.
Responsibilities
- Form initial organizing committee and recruit founding members
- Navigate legal and administrative requirements for chapter establishment
- Set up digital infrastructure including website, social media, and communication platforms
- Hold founding meetings to establish vision, governance, and initial structure
- Launch issue campaigns or electoral work aligned with Labor Party values
- Build coalition relationships with unions, progressive organizations, and community groups
- Establish working committees for organizing, communications, finance, and political education
- Host regular meetings, community events, and public actions
- Create volunteer onboarding, training, and leadership development systems
- Develop sustainable fundraising through membership and grassroots support
- Recruit and support Labor Party candidates for local office
- Coordinate with state and national Labor Party structures
Qualifications
- Deep commitment to workers' rights, economic justice, and the Labor Party's mission
- Community organizing, political campaign, or grassroots activism experience (helpful but not required)
- Ability to build relationships and recruit diverse community members
- Strong communication and public speaking skills
- Organizational and administrative capabilities
- Willingness to learn legal and financial requirements for political organizations
- Ability to navigate conflict and build democratic decision-making processes
- Self-motivated with ability to work independently while coordinating with national support
- Understanding of local political landscape and community needs
